You don’t have to

You don’t have to answer every question you are asked. You can but you don’t have to. 

You don’t have to react to everything that happens even if it happens right in front of you. You can, but you don’t have to. 

You don’t have to have an opinion on every subject. You can, but you don’t have to. 

You don’t have to jump at every opportunity. You can, but you don’t have to. 

You don’t have to accept or give criticism at every turn. You can, but you don’t have to. 

You don’t have to cheer or boo when your team wins or loses. You can, but you don’t have to. 

You don’t have to keep moving or keep talking or keep thinking. You can, but you don’t have to. 

You don’t have to point out what’s wrong or what’s right. You can, but you don’t have to.

You can just smile. You can just sit still. You can just be quiet. 

The only thing you have to do is love. In the end it’s all you will care about and it’s the only thing you’ll wish you’d done more. Love. The only thing that followers of Jesus must do is love.

Doesn’t that take the pressure off…
