Beloved of Good Shepherd Church,

Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!

Mary, the mother of Jesus, didn’t do anything wrong. But, God’s plan for her life caused the storm clouds of scandal to hover threateningly above her head. As far as I can tell:

She had nothing

Yet, she had everything

God made His home in her

She was to bear a child

the Christ

Who would save the world

With His love.

If we learn nothing else from Mary may we learn that the Divine dwells within us. That is a Christmas gift worth more than all the treasure in the world. When you have nothing at all you have all that you need and more because God dwells within you. That’s Christmas. May the Christ child be born in the Bethlehem of our impoverished hearts this Christmas that we, like Mary, may have it all.
